Learn the Lanssi dance! (Part 1!)
Come and learn traditional Finnish folk dance called Lanssi. The name comes from French Lancier quadrille. It is a square dance with four couples and has easy, low running stride. We can have as many squares as there are dancers. One square fits 8 dancers (4 couples). We will have two 45min rehearsals on Friday the 1st of August 11am and 2pm at Gooseberry Falls room and the same evening at 7pm we hit the dance floor at Lavatanssit.
Presenter Bio: Kati has had a lifelong passion for dance that began with Finnish folk dances at the age of 3. Kati’s brother was folk dancing so her mother took her to Kuopion Tanhuujat to attend practices at Tippa group. Kati actively danced folk dances all her youth until she moved to Copenhagen, Denmark in 2007. She was looking for a folk dance group shortly after relocating, but discovered swing dancing instead. Four years later, Kati began teaching and performing in a range of styles in swing dance. Every time she visits her hometown Kuopio, she tries to go to her previous folk dance group’s rehearsal. She currently teaches both swing dances and piano in Atlanta, owning a non-profit swing dance company called Triple Step Studios (https://www.triplestepstudios.com/).
