Join members of the Jarvenpaa (Lakehead) Chapter #1 of the Minnesota Finnish-American Historical Society for an engaging workshop delving into the rich history of St. Croix Avenue, now known as Canal Park Drive.

We will explore the cultural and historical significance of the neighborhood, once a vibrant hub for Finnish immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Through our Power Point images on the screen and narration by our Chapter’s St. Croix Avenue tour guides, participants will hear stories collected from residents who once lived there, and view historical maps of the area.

This workshop is suited for history enthusiasts, local residents as well as visitors curious about Duluth’s Finnish-American heritage. It is also offered as a preview for those who will be taking Sunday’s St. Croix Avenue walking tour on Sunday, August 2, or for those who find walking difficult.

Participants can expect to gain an introduction to Finnish immigration and settlement in Duluth, and participate in a discussion about your Finn town neighborhoods. Come and enjoy the legacy of St. Croix Avenue, an area that was a cornerstone of Duluth’s history.
