WHEN IS FINNFEST USA 2017 HAPPENING?
September 22-24 are the official festival days. September 21 is a pre-festival day with day and evening options. Pre- and post-festival events expand the offerings.
FinnFest USA 2017 is actually a month of FinnFest USA related events with the core festival occurring September 22-24.
WHY THIS SPREAD-OUT SCHEDULE?
FinnFest USA festivals have long had events outside of the festival weekend. Local people knew about the sprawling events but didn’t see their connections to FinnFest USA. Starting this year, FinnFest USA wants you to know about all the other opportunities.
WHERE WILL FINNFEST USA 2017 DAYTIME EVENTS OCCUR?
The Festival hub on Friday and Saturday will be the downtown Hilton Minneapolis hotel and Orchestra Hall. On Sunday, the center will move to the American Swedish Institute. The tori marketplace will occur in the foyer of Orchestra Hall and a tent on Peavey Plaza.
WHAT OTHER LOCATIONS ARE INVOLVED?
Christ Church Lutheran, Cedar Cultural Center, O’Shaughnessy Auditorium, Norway House, Plymouth Congregational Church, and St. Anthony Main movie house.
WHY REGISTER FOR THE FULL FESTIVAL PACKAGE?
Each day’s program is unique. The full tori marketplace will function only on Friday and Saturday, but Sunday will include special family day events. Discounts on evening events apply to the days you are registered.
CAN A PERSON ATTEND ONLY INDIVIDUAL FESTIVAL EVENTS?
The Tori marketplace is free and open to all. All events are open to non-registrants who purchase individual tickets on a space availability basis.
WHAT ABOUT FOOD?
Christ Church Lutheran will be the site for two special Finnish style meals: a Thursday evening pea soup and pancake supper and a Sunday morning Finnish style breakfast. Coffee and pulla will be available in the Orchestra Hall tori; food concessions with Finnish themes will be available.
WHO ORGANIZES FINNFEST USA FESTIVALS?
FinnFest USA’s second corporation — FinnFestUSA Events, Inc. — organizes the festivals, establishing annual themes and defining curators for program elements. FinnFest USA Events partners with local institutions to define, administrate, and finance parts of the festival. It also partners with local Finnish American individuals and organizations, helping them find ways to volunteer as well as take ownership of parts of the program.
