Festival 2017

FinnFest USA 2017 Minneapolis – Sep 22-24

Minneapolis, Minnesota Welcomes FinnFest USA

Tervetuloa! Välkommen! Welcome! to FinnFest USA 2017.  In this year of Suomi Sata/Finland 100, Minneapolis is the site of an incredible program that commemorates 100 years of Finland as a nation state.  Yhdessä/Together, the theme of Finland 100, guides this year’s encounter with Finland and Finnish America.  Check out the rich program outlined here on our website, a program that explores the past, the present, and the future of the world we live in….all done with our Finnish lens.

What an honor to be collaborating with the world-renowned Minnesota Orchestra!  What an honor to be creating this festival in and around Orchestra Hall!  We will spend two full days there, hosting a tori that will emphasize Finnish folk craft and professional artists.  We will have music in the tori and continuing education in the Hilton Hotel, directly across the street.  We welcome you, whether you come from far away and need to book a sleeping room at the Hilton or live in the area and would appreciate shuttle service into downtown.

The Twin Cities is opening wide its welcome to Finland 100 and FinnFest USA: the American Swedish Institute, Norway HouseCedar Cultural Center, O’Shaughnessy Auditorium, the MSP Film Society, VocalEssence, the renowned choral group, all are collaborating to create this weekend of encounter and celebration of Finland 100.  Keep checking this website.  We’ll be unwrapping a lot of surprises for the program as we continue to move to September.

Festival Updates

FinnFest 2017 is going to be an especially important festival as we commemorate Finland’s Centennial year. I am pleased that the Minnesota Orchestra and I will have the chance to play an all-Finnish program as part of the weekend celebration. We hope audiences will join us to hear the music of Aho, Kuusisto, and, of course, Sibelius.
